My husband Michael is one of those exceptional people who strive to improve the lives of others in our community. Michael believes communities can be strengthened by helping the less fortunate get back on their feet, lending a helping hand to a neighbor in need or giving someone who has made mistakes a second chance to achieve a meaningful life.

Over the years Michael has given countless hours of time and hard work towards some great charitable causes. For the last eleven years, he has served as steering committee co-chair and other various roles on the United Technologies Hamilton Sundstrand United Way Campaign. This annual United Way campaign is one of the largest in our county. Without its yearly success, dozens of charitable programs such as Family Counseling Services, hot meals for the elderly and after school children's programs, would be severely cut or become nonexistent.

Michael is a member of two great charitable organizations, the Alpine Kiwanis club and the Masonic Masons. Through both great organizations Michael has given back to the community, not only by participating in fund raising but by setting an example as well. Through opportunities at his work place Michael has always gone that extra mile to help his fellow co-workers by volunteering to be a medical first responder. Michael also is a Safety Steward for UAW Local 592, part of his workplace safety program, which implements safe working practices such as workplace ergonomics and the use of personal safety equipment.

Michael has a strong passion for aviation and enjoys sharing it with the youth of our community. For the past six years he has volunteered hundreds of hours and hard work managing the volunteers who set-up our annual air show "Rockford Airfest." This is a huge event in our community hosting up to 100,000 visitors who come to see some of the top military and civilian aircraft and flying teams. Michael hopes by offering such opportunities for young people they may become inspired to achieve great things for themselves and their community.

Michael gives so much to his community but never forgets his family. He is always there for his daughter Katie and I, whether it's help with Katie's homework or a project I'm working on. Most of the time Michael's hard work goes unnoticed by most, but I know what he has done for our community and he will always be a better man for it.
