Dave lives with such integrity and humility that he naturally wants to contribute and give back to his community.

Dave Becker is your typical small town, hardworking, American man. However, his dedication and generous spirit is anything but average. Dave began volunteering with CareConnect, a Boulder County, CO based nonprofit that promotes the security, comfort and independence of seniors and adults with disabilities, two years ago. He exemplifies all that the organization could ever hope to receive from a volunteer.

Dave spends his time volunteering for CareConnect's Fix-It program, a handyman service that serves low-income seniors and adults with disabilities throughout Boulder County, by performing small maintenance work like installing grab-bars, changing out light bulbs, shoveling snow or helping out with seasonal yard work. Dave recently shared his thoughts about volunteering for Fix-It at a CareConnect fundraising event. "This is the best job I've ever had," Dave said. "Once or twice a week I get an email from CareConnect explaining a client's problem or need and asking if I would like to help. If I'm busy, not in the mood or just can't take it, I say so. But the clients are so interesting, and the work is so fun, I can't think of the last time I turned one down."

Prior to Dave's volunteer work, he was the President of SolarGlass Windows and Door, Inc., a multi-site distributor of windows and doors into the custom residential remodeling and new construction markets. Since the business is headquartered in Boulder, Dave has spent his life gaining a real understanding and appreciation of the needs of his surrounding community. "Most of our clients would much rather take care of themselves than ask for a hand," Dave said. "But when you're disabled or getting up there in years, sometimes you just need some help."

Dave recently helped a young man who had broken his back when the stairway outside his apartment collapsed. With some modification to his bathroom door, and a slew of grab-bars, Dave made sure that he was able to get in and out of his bathroom shower. Thanks to volunteers like Dave, thousands of seniors and adults with disabilities are able to live independently in their own homes well into old age.
