Nathan C. Splant Foundation
Dyer, IN
Dedicated father and husband. Selfless and caring individual. Founder of the Nathan C. Splant Foundation dedicated to helping premature children.
I met my husband in 1990 and we got married in July of 1995. We are still madly in love and working the magic! The birth of our son, Nathan, was the strength and turning point in our marriage. Nathan was born January 2004 - 15 weeks gestation at 1.9 pounds and only 12 inches long. He spent 3 and a half months in the neo-natal intensive care unit at Munster Community Hospital. Nathan was discharged April 2004 and could home with an oxygen tank, heart monitor and in-home care. Our journey through his recovery and everyday challenges brought us even closer together. We could not have done it without our love and support for each other, including family members and the doctors/nurses/therapists.
Nathan would have occupational and physical therapy until he was six and would be involved in special education programs until kindergarten. Nathan has been diagnosed with sensory intregation disorder, but this is fixable and continues to receive some occupational therapy. We are very fortunate and Nathan's prognosis is good and he will most likely live a normal life. Nathan has given us hope, faith and a love of life to live everyday to the fullest, because you never know what tomorrow might bring.
In 2007, together, we founded the Nathan C. Splant Foundation to help local premature children and families in our community. We continue to grow and help families through the Foundation's assistance and grant giving program. We have also combined our love of racing with the support of our local racetrack - Illiana Motor Speedway. Each year, the Foundation presents Racing for Babies to raise prematurity awareness and raise funds benefit premature children and their families. The community and local businesses come together with big hearts to make this event a huge success!
Our life began as two and in 2004, we were blessed with our son Nathan, which has truly been a life changing experience. It has been a wonderful journey and we look forward to what tomorrow will bring.
Philip’s commitment to making just a small change in the world through his charitable work, volunteerism, and community involvement with the Foundation, is priceless.
